Aluminum CNC Bust

This project was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of our new Haas TM-1P CNC Mill. I took a scan of my head using a cell phone app from AutoDesk called 123D Catch. From that scan, I imported the mesh into AutoDesk Inventor and cleaned up the faces and modeled a block with a caption. I used Inventor’s integrated CAM module, Inventor HSM to create a few high speed tool paths to machine this bust in 41 minutes. I feel I could have gone faster, since the end result of the machining had a higher resolution that the original mesh. This can be seen by viewing the triangles that are visible in the machined bust. However, 41 minutes was an impressive demonstration of the machine’s capabilities.
